Residential Sprinkler Training Program The only FIRAS approved course

Design, Installation & Maintenance of Residential Sprinkler Systems  

1. Course scope: Provides the knowledge to maintain, install and (if taking the extra module) design Domestic/Residential Sprinkler Systems to BS9251:2005 (or relevant British Standard). The course is in 2 parts comprising 3 modules.

Foundation module: The first part is a distance-learning module, which is a pre-requisite for attendance on the Main course.

Main Course: The second part, covers 2 further modules - Maintenance & Installation, and Design - each of 2 days duration.

Support: The FSA provides on-going technical support, and will check the first 3 designs of successful candidates, to ensure candidates have fully understood the course contents.

2. Entry requirement: basic plumbing skills, numeracy, literacy and the ability to read and understand drawings, plus successful completion of the distance-learning Foundation module.

3. Membership: Although Candidates do not need to be Members of the FSA, we offer discount to existing Members and an incentive scheme for new entrants to the Industry, which includes discounted membership for 1 year.

4. Duration: the Main course comprises a common introduction followed by 4 practical parts totalling 20 units, and of 30+ hours duration if all 4 parts are undertaken. Each part is followed by a written examination.  The Course is mainly theoretical but includes 'hands on' experience with samples of equipment and sprinklers, installed systems and pipe fitting techniques for copper and plastic pipe. It will involve the use of a scientific calculator and/or computer for hydraulic design. 

5. Certificate of Competence: Listing by the FSA depends upon the satisfactory completion of course, including passing of all relevant test papers. The Certificate of Competence is awarded to individuals (not companies). Holders are recommended to take our Refresher Course every 3 years to maintain their status. Successful candidates will be listed by the FSA and may join the FIRAS scheme.
